Aristocratic Families and Military Right in the Western Jin Dynasty

Abstract

Military right is one of the mainstays of state powers in feudal society. The aristocratic families in the Western Jin Dynasty are the principal power in political affairs, which finds expression in the distribution, possession and alternation of military right. The controlling of military right on the part of the aristocratic families is one of the decisive preconditions of the establishment of Men Fa politics in the Western Jin Dynasty, and lays a solid foundation for the Men Fa politics in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
