Development of a Career Planning Questionnaire for Higher Vocational and Undergraduate Nursing Students and Its Reliability and Validity

Objective To develop a questionnaire for measurement the career planning level of nursing students in higher vocational college or university.Methods Literature review,experts consultation and students interview were conducted to form the items of the original questionnaire and the questionnaire was filled out by 168 and 178 higher vocational and undergraduate nursing students,who were selected by convenient cluster sampling.Item analysis,reliability test and factor analysis were used to form a formal questionnaire.Results The career planning questionnaire included 6 dimensions:self-cognition(6 items),professional environment assessment(7 items),career goals(3 items),plans and actions(7 items),human relationship(5 items) and feedback(5 items).The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.913,with that of each dimension being 0.713,0.841,0.680,0.816,0.829,0.717 respectively.The content validity index(CVI) was 0.972,with that of each dimension being 1.000,1.000,1.000,0.960,0.840,1.000 respectively.The total variance explained by the 6 factors was 54.71%,and the factor loading ranged from 0.393 to 0.802.Conclusion The career planning questionnaire for higher vocational and undergraduate nursing students has a high reliability and a good validity,and can be used to measure their career planning level.
