Methods of Sweet Sorghum Breeding in China

As an energy source crop,sweet sorghum has high yield,high sugar content,high inversion rate of alcohol and stronger capacity in stress resistance.Sweet sorghum would play an important role for the food and energy security in condition of reasonably exploitation and utilization in China.The level of sweet sorghum breeding in China is rather low and the standing varieties fail to meet the need of the production in the country.It was practicable to breed new sweet sorghum varieties from renovation of standing varieties,cross breeding,mutation breeding and heterotic utilization.
