Abstract
The flame retardant and mechanical properties of intumescent flame retarded low density polyethylenes in the presence of additives were studied with differential scan calorimetry(DSC),thermogravimetry(TG) and mechanical measurement. The results showed that ethylene vinylacetate copolymer(EVA) enhanced the elongation at break and char formation. The addition of fumed silica(SiO_2) produced the increases in tensile strength, elongation at break, the impact strength of notched specimens and flame retardancy properties.(NH_4)_2SO_4 as an oxidant improved the intumescent flame retarded low density polyethylenes.
