The Unique Conception and Attitude of Interpretation in Zong Bai-hua's Comparative Poetics

As an academic field, comparative poetics was formally established in the West in the sixties of the twentieth century. However, Zong Bai-hua set foot in the research on this field in the 1920s and 1930s. Examining Zong Bai-hua's studies on poetics and aesthetics in the perspective of comparative poetics, this paper attempts to elucidate Zong Bai-hua's unique consciousness of mutual-explanation and mutual-verification of Western and Chinese literary documents, and his tendency towards the explanation of Chinese traditional literary It is of significance to study Zong's poetics in the context of cultural globalization and modern transformation of Chinese traditional literary documents.
