Abstract
Just before the opening of the CPC's 17th National Congress, there were a large variety of socialist theories being proposed to the question of what socialism is,among which many of them can be categorized into the genre of democratic socialism. To approach this genre correctly, the following aspects should be taken into consideration.First, some abstract value objectives should not be taken as the essence of socialism.Second,Workers' involvement in management and supervision doesn't mean socialism.Third, social welfare is just a policy, not the essence of social system, and therefore, socialism can not be defined as common well-being instead of public ownership.Lastly, socialism with Chinese characteristics and the democratic socialism are two opposite ideological systems.
