Abstract

A molybodate/phosphate conversion coating on magnesium alloy is investigated, and several factors affecting the conversion coating are analysed. The results show that molybdate/phosphate conversion coating has the lowest corrosion current and the best corrosion resistance when the pH of molybdate-phosphate conversion bath is 5 and n(MoO~(2-)_4)/n(H_2PO~-_4) is 1/2.The treated magnesium alloy has a uniform alveolate-crystallized microstructure. When the molybdate-phosphate conversion bath contains both ions Mn~(2+) and Ca~(2+),the conversion coating has maximal polarization impedance.
