Abstract

Objective:To examine the expression of TGF-β1 in lung cancer tissue and biological significance. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect TGF-β1 expression in 77 human lung cancer tissues and 20 benign pulmonary disease tissues. Results: TGF-β1 immunoreactivity increased significantly from15% in benign pulmonary lesion tissues to 44.2% in lung cancer tissues(p0.05).In addition, the expression level of TGF-β1 protein increased significantly with the different degrees of the differentiation cancer(p0.05).The TGF-β1 immunoreactivity increased significantly with lymph node metastasis of lung cancer(p0.05).The over expression rates of TGF-β1 in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma were not significantly different(p0.05).Conclusions:An increased TGF-β1 expression is seen in lung carcinogenesis and metastasis.TGF-β1 may be associated with the carcinogenesis, biological behaviors and prognosis of lung cancer.
