Clinical value of blunt pancreatic trauma by early CT examination

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of CT examination in early diagnosis of pancreatic trauma.Methods CT findings of 11 cases with surgically proved pancreatic trauma were retrospectively analyzed.All cases underwent CT plain scans of the abdomen and 2 cases underwent contrast enhanced scans preoperatively.Results All patients were identified by exploratory laparotomy with pancreatic contusions in 2 cases and pancreatic lacerations in 8 cases,hemotoma of omental bursa in 1 case.The abdominal CT was positive for pancreatic trauma in 9 patients and missed the presence of pancreatic trauma in the other 2 cases.Conclusion Most of pancreatic parenchymal injuries can be demonstrated on early CT scan,but CT diagnosis for rupture of pancreas duct is limited.
