Abstract

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been one of the most important causes of irreversible blindness in old individuals nowadays. Its incidence increases year by year.Due to the uncertainty of its pathogenesis, the effective treatment for AMD is unavailable.Recently researchers have indicated lipofuscin deposites below retina along with age,and through the effect of photochemistry, the functions of retinal pigment epithelium become abnormal,Photoreceptors' degeneration is increased and neovascularization in choroid form resulting in the occurrence of AMD.
