Abstract

Using the data of regular meteorological sounding and weather radar, coupled with weather analysis and diagnosing method,a case of hailstone occurred over Changle city of Fujian province was studied. The results indicated that the instability of atmospheric stratification and the invasion of cold advection were the key reasons for the hailstone process;hailstone occurred in the ascending motion area where convective instability at middle-lower level, warm advection at lower level, and cold advection at higher level as well as the convergence at lower level and divergence at higher level. This paper also founded that potential pseudo-equivalent temperature, divergence, specific humidity and radar reflectivity could indicate severe convection weather like this case.
