Abstract
Objective To understand the iodine nutritional status among pregnant women in Shunyi of Beijing, amd investigate thyroid function in different stages of gestation of the woman and iodine nutritional statue. Methods Using a cross-sectional survey methods, five towns and 400 pregnant women were selected randomly. The urinary iodine and serum thyroid stimulating hormone and free thyroxine in blood specimens from the women were detected. Results The medians of urinary iodine among the pregnant women was 128.6 g/L,that was 152.3 g/L in early pregnant,128 g/L in midpregnancy and 126.8 g/L in late pregnant, without significant differences in different periods of pregnant. TSH 、FT3 、FT4were 1.66±1.06 ml U/L、3.17±0.58 pg/m L、0.81±0.60 ng/d L respectively, gradually reducing with increasing pregnancy the FT4,TSH increases. In 400 pregnant women, 49(12.25%)of them with thyroid dysfunction, 19(4.75%)with Hyperthyroidism;15(3.75%) with sub-hyperthyroidism,14(3.5%) with sub-hypothyroidism; 1(0.25%)with low serum T4.There were no significant difference in urinary iodine level in different thyroid dysfunction(P 0.05).There was one case(3.44%) with thyroid dysfunction in 29 early pregnant women; 37(19.17%) with thyroid dysfunction in 193 of them; 11( 6.18%)with thyroid dysfunction in 178 late pregnancy women with significantly differences in thyroid dysfunction incidence(P0.05).Conclusion Iodine nutritional status of pregnant women in the area is not satisfactory, health education for iodine nutrition among pregnant women should be further strengthened. The causes of abnormal thyroid function among the women are complex. Iodine nutrition level is not main influence factor and it may be related to maternal immunity during pregnancy, thyroid diseases in iodine status level, the basis of genetic susceptibility factors among the women.
