Abstract

In order to appraise the petroleum exploration potential and indicate the direction for further exploration in the area, the authors analyzed the sedimentary facies and sedimentary evolution and elaborated the petroleum geological conditions and exploration direction using the methods of sequence stratigraphy and seismic facies combined with the regional geologic background. The result showed that the sedimentary facies was delta mainly, and the sedimentary evolution experienced transgression-dereliction in upper Pliocene of this area. The sedimentary sequence showed superimposed predelta-delta front sediments. These depositional characteristics may lead to good source-reservoir-cap assemblage in this area, and the neotectonic activity is favorable to develop various traps. Therefore, this area is good in hydrocarbon accumulation conditions with great exploration potential.
