Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of β-catenin and MMP7 in various grade of glioma and the clinical significance. Methods Tissue microarray were constructed including 89 glioma and 6 normal brain tissues. Two step immunohistochemical staining was used to examine the expression of β-catenin and MMP7 in various grade of glioma and normal brain tissues. Results Normal brain tissues showed negative expression forβ-catenin and MMP7.A higher expression of β-catenin and MMP7 could be observed with the increasing grade of glioma. The expression of β-catenin and MMP7 were significantly different in low-grade and high-grade glioma(P0.01,P0.05 respectively). The expression of β-catenin had close correlation to that of MMP7 in glioma (P0.01).Conclusion The accumulation of β-catenin in cytoplasm and nuclear could promote the expression of MMP7,which might be associated with tumorigenesis, development and aggression of glioma. The expression of β-catenin suggested the malignant degree and grade of glioma.
