Abstract
Artificial nodules on the roots were induced by treating maize seedlings with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and Azospirillum brasilense A suitable solution of 2,4-D(0 9mg/kg)had been selected when measuring nitrogenase activity Both acetylene reduction and 15 N 2 tracer method could measure nitrogenase activity 4-hour lag period was observed when measuring nitrogenase activity by acetylene reduction method The seedlings treated with 2,4-D and Azospirillum brasilense were more tolerant to O 2 concentration than that treated with Azospirillum brasilense only The result suggested that artificial nodules induced by 2,4-D provided niche protected from O 2 for Azospirillum brasilense
