Effect and safety of losartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination therapy on mild-to-moderate essential hypertension

Objective: To evaluate the effect and safety of losartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination (Hyzzar) therapy on mild-to-moderate essential hypertension. Methods: All patients (27 cases) received Hyzzar 1-2 pieces once daily for 8 weeks. Blood pressure and laboratory index were measured to evaluate its effect and safety. Results: The total efficacious rate was 66. 6%. Systolic blood pressure (SBP)/diastolic blood pressure(DBP) decreased significantly from (149.9± 16. 8/103. 0± 5. 6)mmHg to (138.6± 13.3/93.3 ±1 6. 9)mmHg after 1 week and to (129. 2 ± 12. 6/87. 4 ± 7. 8)mmHg after 8 weeks. There was no change in heart rate. Adverse reactions were slight, the total rate was 10. 0%. Conclusions: Hyzzar has a quick and stable effect of lowering blood pressure and is nearly a perfect drug for essential hypertension with little adverse reactions.
