Abstract
This Paper makes a positive analysis on the development situation of the intra-industry trade in manufacturing industries between China and Japan during the period from 1992 to 2002 , according to the data of SITC classification at a five-digit level. The result shows that inter-industry trade is still the main pattern of the trade structure between China and Japan. However, the proportion of intra-industry trade in manufacturing industries is gradually rising. The pattern of intra-industry trade between China and Japan presents the situation of giving the first place to intra-industry trade of low quality, the second place to that of high quality, and the last place to horizontal intra-industry trade. The proportion of intra-industry trade of low quality in manufacturing industries between China and Japan is rising year after year. China is still facing the hard task of promoting the upgrade of industry structure and fostering the factor of human capital.
