Pathological analysis and treatment for 46 cases of palatine saliva gland tumor

Abstract

OBJECTIVE?To study the pathological classification and treatment on palatine salivea gland tumor(PSGT).?METHODS?The pathological type, treatment and prognosis were analyzed in 46 cases of the PSGT treated from January, 1986 to November, 2001 in our hospital.?RESULTS?Out of 46 cases of PSGT, 19 cases were occurred at the soft palate, 11 cases at hard palate and 16 cases at common boundary of soft palate and hard palate, and 35 cases (76%) were benign tumor in which 32 cases were pleomorphic adenoma and 11 cases (24%) were malignant tumor. 41 patients were treated by surgical operation and 5 patients were treated with radiotherapy, in which 5 (13%) of 38 cases relapsed after flowing up survey.?CONCLUSION?Surgical operation is the best therapy to treat the PSGT and it is important to avoid relapse after operation and prevent the occurrence of complication.
