Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of S-ademetionine preventing hepatic carcinoma(HC) recurrence after hepatectomy. Methods Thirty HC patients receiving hepatectomy were divided into groups treatment and control,15 in each.Treatment group were given SAMe,iv gtt,1 000 mg/d,from operative day to days 8,control group given reduced glutathione,1 800 mg/d.Parameters of liver function and immune regulation were determined 1 day before operation and 14 days after.Patients had return visit 1/month within 6 months after operation, and 1/3 month in months 6 to 12.Recurrences were recorded. Results Both groups completed 1-year follow-up,without loss. Two patients had recurrence in treatment group(2/15),7 in control group(7/15),the difference was significant(χ2=3.968,P0.05).No difference was noted in alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase enzyme, total bilirubin between 2 groups 1 day before operation and 14 days after(P0.05).There was not difference in alpha-fetoprotein(AFP),hepatocyte growth factor(HGF) 1 day before operation(P0.05),but there was 14 days after operation(P0.05).Conclusion SAMe,having the same hepatoprotective effects as conventional reduced glutathione, can reduce HC recurrence and AFP and HGF levels.
