Comprehensive evaluation of liquefaction potential for sandy soil of the highway bridge on Yangtze river site under ground surface 15m to 30m

Abstract

The different parameters are adopted,such as earthquake ground motion parameters,soil behaviour indexes and geological burying conditions,in the estimating methods for liquefaction potential of sandy soil in different seismic design codes and some typical estimating methods at home and abroad.So,there are some differences in evaluation results of sand liquefaction potential,when different estimating methods of liquefaction potential for sandy soils are applied in the identical engineering site.It is objective and necessary for multi-methodology in liquefaction estimation of sandy soil employed to give the appropriate and creditable comprehensive evaluation results of liquefaction potential for important engineering projects.In this paper,the estimating methods for liquefaction potential of sandy soils of code for seismic design of buildings in China,the typical estimating methods at home and abroad and the finite-element analysis method are employed in evaluating the liquefaction potential for sandy soils at a site of one highway bridge on Yangtze river under ground surface 15 m to 30 m,in combination with the vibration triaxial test results.The appropriate and creditable comprehensive evaluation results of sandy soils liquefaction potential are given based on the methods mentioned above,through considering 5m depth and without regard to riverbed scour condition.Moreover,the evaluation standard of liquefied potential for sandy soils is provided including liquefaction,probably liquefied and non-liquefied.
