Abstract

AIM: To investigate the effect of hyperoxia solution (HO) on acute lung injury ALI in rabbits induced by oleic acid. METHODS: HO was prepared from Ringers solution. Eighteen rabbits were randomly divided into three groups: Oleic acid group ( group A), HO treatment group( group B) and control group( group C) with 6 in each group. ALI model was established by iv oleic acid (0.06 mL·kg -1 ) in group A and group B, while in group C, the same volume of normal saline was given. At 30 min after oleic acid administration, HO (20 mL·kg -1 ) was applied in group B, which was replaced by Ringers solution in group A and group C. Blood samples were taken for blood gas analysis before and at 30, 60, 120 min after oleic acid or normal saline administration. Two hours later, the animals were suicided, and myeloperoxidase (MPO), content of lung water, lung/body ratio were measured, and pathologic changes of lung tissue were observed microscopically. RESULTS: Compared with group C, PaO 2 significantly decreased ( P 0.01), while MPO, content of lung water, and lung/body ratio markedly increased ( P 0.01), and local hemorrhage, interstitial edema, alveoli exudation, and massive inflammatory cells infiltration were also observed in group A. In group B, PaO 2 significantly increased ( P 0.05), MPO and content of lung water decreased ( P 0.01), and only mild pathological changes were observed.
