Abstract
Place theory views the relationship between human and place in emotional,psychological,cultural and ethical perspectives.Place is space given meaning by human experience in it.Sense of place refers to a set of identities of and attachments to a place that are held by individuals or groups.Tourist destinations are places,tourist experience is a sense of place.Therefore,it is reasonable and necessary to employ the place theory to tourism research.The paper presents researches on place theory with regard to humanistic geography and environmental psychology,as well as their implication for tourism.Some further researches are proposed.
