Abstract
YAN Fu was an initiative bourgeois thinker in modern China and a pioneer who introduced western sociology into China. While doing so, he tried to apply the principles and methods of sociology to the analysis and solution of a series of social problems and a multitude of ills of the time. At the very beginning of his studies he set a good example in combining theories with practice which helped promote the studies and development of modern Chinese sociology and also the later Chinese sociologists in their studies and search for a solution of the Chinese social problems.
