Abstract
In order to study the effect of closing hillsides to facilitate afforestation on vegetation recovery in rockydesertification areas, the research was made through sample survey on the vegetation situation of afforestation areas and organic matter content of soil. The results showed that the overall vegetation coverage was 44% and the vegetation type was only 121 with a poor growth condition before closing hillsides to facilitate afforestation; after afforestation, the overall vegetation coverage was 85% and the vegetation type became 194 with a good growth condition. The organic matter content of soil in 0~20 cm after afforestation increased by 4.43 g/kg compared with that before afforestation. The organic matter content of soil in 20~40 cm after afforestation rose by 3.22 g/kg compared with that before afforestation. And total N, P and K went up at different levels.
