Abstract

In this paper, the preparation of coagulant from the industrial residue——red mud was studied. The influence of process parameter such as the conditions for roasting, acidic leaching and polymerization were investigated in detail. The high efficiency coagulant could be obtained under following optimum process:the red mud roasted at 600℃ for 1 hour was immersed in 3 mol·L-1 HCl for 3 hours at normal temperature with the ratio of acid to red mud of 10 mL·g-1,then the filtrate was polymerized with 50 g·L-1 MgCO3 at 80℃ for 3 hours.
