Reconstruction of Historical Materialism by North American Ecological Marxismand Some Enlightenments

The problem area, conception, theory and method of Marx's Historical Materialism were reconstructed from three angles by North American ecological Marxism. The Canadian scholar William Leiss and Ben Agger exploited the study on human being's needs according to the historical materialism. The American scholar James O'connor introduced the idea of culture and nature into the classical conception of historical materialism. Another American scholar John Bellamy Foster developed a methodology of ecological materialism which synthesizes dialectically the materialist views of nature and history.
