Abstract

The environment conditions that influence the growth, conidiation, conidial germination and appressorial formation of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides(Glomerella cingulata)causing the mango anthracnose disease were investigated. The fungus grew and sporulated at 737(opt.2031and 2531,respectively)on PDA plates,The optimum pH for growth and sporulation were 5.08.0 and 3.54.5,respectively.Light was not neccessary for growth, but it enhanced conidiation. The optimum temperature for conidial germination was 2531,maximum 37,minimum 7.Appressoria could be produced at 1535(opt.31).Although the conidia of C.gloeosporioides could germinate in distilled water,an exogenous supply of nutrients evidently increased both conidial germination and appressorial formation. The best germination was observed when 4% joice of mango leaves was used for germination fluid. The optimum pH for conidial germination and appressorial formation were 37 and 35,respectively.
