Abstract

Objective To analyze causes of injury death of people in Suzhou Canglang district to provide scientific evidence for improving prevention and control measures for injury. Methods According to International Classification of Diseases(ICD-10),the data about injury death causes of people living in Canglang District in Suzhou from 2005 to 2009 was sorted and coded, and analyzed with constituent ratio,syn-position and other indicators. Results In recent 5 years, the average annual crude death rate of residents in injury in Canglang district was 37.01/100 000,accounting for 6.53% of the overall causes of death, ranking the fifth of overall causes of death. The first 5 external causes of injury death were accidental falls, traffic accidents, suicide, drowning, and accidental poisoning. The external causes of these five categories accounted for 72.50%.Drowning and traffic accidents were the major causes of the injury death for the children under 15,people between 15 to 60 died mostly from traffic accidents, and accidental falls caused death of most people over 60.The overall injury death of men was same as women were in accidental falls, traffic accidents and suicide. However, the analysis showed the death rate from accidental falls for female was higher than that of male, from traffic accidents, male was higher than female and from suicide there was no significant differences. Conclusion Injury was one of the major causes for the death of the residents in Canglang district. It suggested that appropriate intervention measures should be taken to prevent injury.
