Abstract
The variation law and patten were studied of five seed morphologic characters of 19 Magnolia officinalis provenances from 8 provinces in natural distribution. Results show that extremely significant differences are found among different provenances in seed length, seed width, seed thickness and seed length/width;that extremely significant differences are also found among different families in seed length, seed width and seed thickness;that the variation of 100-seed-mass from different provenances is far bigger than that from different families;that the variation range of the former is from 14.147~24.547 g and that of the latter is from 15.003~17.357 g;and that accumulated temperature and heat factors remarkably control the seed morphologic characters such as seed width, seed thickness and 100-seed mass.
