Diagnosis and treatment of 188 patients with intestinal obstruction

Objective To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of intestinal obstruction.Methods All 188 patients with intestinal obstruction from July 2005 to July 2008 in Huangshi Central Hospital were analyzed retrospectively.Results The main causes of intestinal obstruction were as follows:adhesion(71 cases,37.8 %);colorectal cancer(43 cases,22.9 %);hernia(22 cases,11.7 %).106 patients(55.2 %)underwent operations.Twelve patients(16.9 %)with adhesion underwent operations.182 patients(97.8 %)recovered.Conclusion The first cause of intestinal obstruction was adhesion in these patients.It was effective for the patients with adhesion to use somatotatin and enema.It was safe and effective to use enema with a small volume of saline and glycerine enema in these patients with obstruction.Usage of somatotatin can relieve the intestinal obstruction for all the patients with obstruction.
