Abstract
[Objective]To analyze the antimicrobial resistance in Enterococcus species isolated from PLA No.174 Hospital.[Methods]Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was carried out by Kirby Bauer(K-B).[Results]A total of 162 strains of Enterococcus were collected, including E faecalis(86 strains,53.1%) and E faecium(47 strains,29.0%) and E avium(17 strains,10.5%) and E gallinarum(8 strains,4.9%).The strains were mainly isolated from the urine(29.0%),purulence and wound secretion(21.0%),bile(17.9%),sputum(16.0%) and blood(8.0%).All of the Enterococcus were still highly susceptible to vancomycin, teicoplanin and linezolid.A strain of vancomycin resistant E faecalis and E faecium was isolated.A strain of vancomycin intermediate E faecalis was isolated. The percentage of E faecalis resistant to nitrofurantoin, ampicillin, penicillin, ticarcillin and ciprofloxacin was 3.5%,7.0%,9.3%,9.3% and 23.3%,respectively.About 31.4% of E faecalis isolates were resistant to gentamicin(high level). The E faecium strains were more resistant to most drugs than E faecalis. The isolates resistant to nitrofurantoin, ampicillin, penicillin, ticarcillin and ciprofloxacin was 25.5%,80.9%,83.0%,80.9% and 59.6%,respectively.About 44.7% of E faecium isolates were resistant to gentamicin(high level).[Conclusion]The multi-antibiotic resistance is very serious in clinical isolates of Enterococcus.Antimicrobial therapy should be based on the results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing in vitro.
