Abstract

Objective To compare the difference of spinal cord function after surgical treatment or conservative treatment to cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation. Methods Twenty-eight cases with cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation were retrospectively analyzed and divided into surgical treatment group(n=15) and conservative treatment group(n=13).JOA(Japanese Orthopaedic Association) scores before and after treatment were recorded to make a comparison between surgical treatment group and conservative treament group. Results Three months after treatment,JOA scores were 1.92±0.58 in the conservative treatment group and 4.93±0.91 in the surgical treatment group.Six months after treatment,JOA scores were 2.71±0.64 in the conservative treatment group and 6.24±0.93 in the surgical treatment group. One year after treatment, the scores were 4.23±0.75 in the conservative treatment group and 7.80±0.98 in the surgical treatment group. There was a significant difference statistically between the two groups through T test(P0.01).Conclusion Surgical treatment is superior to the conservative treatment to cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation.Once the verified diagnosis is done, the operative treament should be carried out as early as possible.
