Abstract

To study the Span Dominated Ground Effect(SDGE)of wing in ground effect, the N-S equations of steady incompressible flow and the standard k-e turbulence model are solved by FLUENT,and the flow of 3D wing in ground effect is simulated under the ground effect.Firstly, given an area and a ground clearance, the wings in ground effect with different aspect ratios are simulated.Secondly, given a chord length and a relative ground clearance, the wings in ground effect with different aspect ratios and endplate are simulated. The curves of aerodynamic characteristics are provided for the wings in ground effect with different aspect ratios and endplate, the effects of aspect ratio and endplate on the position of wingtip vortex core and downwash angle are revealed. The SDGE is more prominent under the ground effect and the endplate further strengthens the aerodynamic performance of the wings;the wingtip vortex moves outwards due to the existence of the ground and the downwash angle is reduced. The simulation results provide theoretical basis for the design and optimization on the crafts of wing in ground effect.
