Abstract
Using grain size data of the sediment column core from the Chaohu Lake, the authors analyzed the granular characteristics such as composition and size of particles of the Chaohu bottom sediments and discussed the sedimentary environment and processes of the sampling area in order to give some assistance to the reconstruction of the ancient Chaohu environment. It is found from the experiment analysis of the grain sizes that particles of sediments close to the river mouth area show relatively large amplitude of changes in depth range and are coarser compared to the sediments at the center position of the lake.Grain sizes of the central sediments change little with depth and have good continuity. The difference between sediments from these two positions has suggested different sedimentary environments.
