Abstract

In this paper, ammonium polyphosphate(APP)-pentaerythritol(PER)-melamine(MEL) as flame retardants and MCM-41 as synergist agent were being used in intumescent flame retardant(IFR)polypropylene(PP).The effect of MCM-41 content on flame retardants, mechanical property and thermal properties between IFR and PP were studied. It was found that a little quantity of MCM-41 could improve the flame retardance of PP.With the addition of 1 % MCM-41,the highest LOI value was 32.7,and increased 92.35 % by comparison with pure PP.TGA,DMA and SEM showed that MCM-41 could catalyze esterification reaction between IFR,and increase the char residue and form much denser char to improve the retardant performance of the materials.
