Abstract
The west-central China has been chiefly chosen for a new cycle of domestic strategic region in petroleum re sources.According to the exploration situations and resource potentials of known5oil-gas bearing basins here, the demonstration of their geologic conditions for hydrocarbon generation, petroleum systems and petroleum prospect evalu-ations,and by applying new theory of petroleum geology, this paper proposed following5areas as the new strategic re-gions in west-central China duringTenth Five-Year Plan:southwest depression of Tarim basin, western depression of Sichuan basin, southern depression of Junggar basin, western depression of Erdos basin and Delinha depression of northeastern Qaidam basin.
