Inhibition Effect of Bevacizumab on Corneal Neovascularization in Rat

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the inhibition effect of bevacizumab on rat corneal neovascularization model.Method:Silver nitrate sticks were used to cauterize corneas of 16 male SD rats(16 eyes).For the following 14 days,the treatment group(10 eyes)were instilled with bevacizumab 25 μg/mL for six times daily,while the control group(6 eyes)received normal saline for six times daily.After 14 days,the corneal photographs were taken to calculate corneal neovascularization as a percentage of the whole corneal area.Wax sections of corneas were stained with haematoxylin-eosin stain.Results: Mean coverage rate of corneal neovascularization was(19.7±6.5)%,(72.3±11.3)% in the control group(P0.01).Light microscope evaluation was consistent with corneal image analysis.Conclusion: Bevacizumab(25 μg/mL)efficaciously inhibites corneal neovascularization in the male SD rat model.
