Abstract
Objective:To detect the expression and distribution of Interleukin-4(IL-4) and Interleukin-5(IL-5) in palatine tonsil in order to investigate the relation in the pathogenetic mechanism of chronic tonsillitis. Methods:The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression and distribution of IL-4 and IL-5 in 36 palatine tonsillectomy specimens of experimental group obtained from 36 patients with chronic tonsillitis and the 30 specimens of control group obtained from relatively normal tonsil tissues. Results:The expression of IL-4 and IL-5 in tonsil tissues of experimental group was higher than those in control group(P0.01).There was a positive correlation between the expression of IL-4 and that of IL-5 in tonsil chronic tonillitis tissue(r=0.701,P0.01).Conclusions: The IL-4 and IL-5 were highly expressed in tonsil chronic tonsillitis tissue and mainly distributed in the area of tonsillar immunologic function. The study indicates that allergy is one of the major causes of chronic tonsillitis.
