Expression of VEGF and TNF-α in breast cancer and its clinical significance

Objective To investigate the expression of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)in breast cancer and its clinical significance.Methods Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect the levels of serum VEGF in 62 patients with breast cancer,52 patients with benign breast tumor and 50 healthy subjects,and the serum levels of TNF-α were detected by RIA method for the three groups.Results The levels of serum VEGF and TNF-a in patients with breast cancer were significantly higher than those in healthy subjects and the patients with benign breast tumor.The levels of serum VEGF and TNF-a were correlated with clinical stage(P0.05).Conclusion The levels of serum VEGF and TNF-α may be correlated with the genesis and development of breast cancer,and the detection of the levels of serum VEGF and TNF-α may play an important role in the diagnosis of breast cancer and the evaluation for patients' condition and prognosis.
