Abstract
The test was conducted with 28 maize varieties in 84 randomized plots to evaluate phenological period, botanical characteristics, feeding value, planting benefits of the varieties in order to select the varieties suitable for planting in Yunnan. The results showed that Quchen No.9,Shengyu No.5,Xuanhuangdan No.7 and Xuanbaidan No.2 performed better in terms of adaptability, thick stem, strong lodging-resistance,high nutrient content, high green plant ratio(90%) at dough stage, high fresh yield over 100 t/hm2 and good proportion of output and input over 1.1,making the four varieties the top priority to grow for silage in the subtropical areas in Yunnan or the similar regions.
