Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of Chondritinase ABC(ChABC)on recovery of locomotor function after spinal cord injury(SCI).Methods Seventy-two SD rats were randomly divided into three groups:sham group, saline group and ChABC group. The SCI model of contusion was established according to the method of Allen's and then the saline and ChABC group were treated every day for 1 week with saline,ChABC respectively by subarachnoid space catheter placed near the injury site.Motor behavior was measured by the method of BBB scores and Motor Evoked Potentials(MEP)were recorded to display the conduction of injured spial cord. The morphous of the remnant injured spinal cord tissue and the quantities of nuerons were detected by HE staining and Nissl's steining. Results There were no differences for BBB scors beteen the saline and ChABC group within 1 week, but from 2 to 4 weeks the BBB scors had significantly differences(P0.05;P0.01 respectively);and MEPs were significantly enhanced in ChABC group compared with saline groups(P0.01 in 4 week);the morphous and the nuerons of the remnant injured spinal cord in ChABC group was better than in saline group. Conclusion The result indicate the ChABC can enhance the recovery of neuromotor function and protect the injured spial tissue.
