Unilateral Transpedicular Kyphoplasty in the Treatment of multi-level Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures with Single Balloon

Objective:To investigate the clinical value of unilateral transpadicular pemutaneouskyphoplasty(PKP)inthetreatmentof multi-levelosteoporosisvertebralcompressionfractures(OVCFs)withsingleballoon.Methods:Totreatandevaluate 25 cases of patients,whose age ranged from 65 to 83 years old(mean age 7l.3),a total of 60 vertebrae with osteoporosis vertebrae compression fractures by using unilateral transpedicular PKP with single balloon.Then observing the pain relief and reduction of the fracture postoperatively,and comping the changes of vertebral height and Cobb's angle.Results:All patiems were safely through the surgery.The operation time is 45～146 min,28.4 min /vertebrae in average.The balloon's expansion pressure are 98～320Psi,180Psi in average;The expansion volume are 2～4.5ml,3.25 ml in average.The number of expansion are 2～6 times,3.3times in average,and there were 3 cases of balloon rupture The volume of cement iniected are 2～5m1.3.5ml/vertebrae There were 2 cases of intraspinal leakage and 1 case of paraspinal leakage which all led to no symptom.The Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)score was 7.5±0.97 before the operation.2.8 ～0.65 after the operation,the height of the vertebral body and the Cobb,s angle changed significantly.After 6～24 months'follow-up,all the patients get steady maintenance of pain relief effects and no complication occur.Conclusion:Unilateral transpedicular kyphaplasty in the treatment of multi-level osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with single balloon has satisfactory effect in shortening the operative time and reducing the costs.
