Abstract

The change of idea of love and marriage during the late Qing Dynasty was influenced by the ideological trend of the Ming and Qing dynasties, which indicates the sympathy of the intellectuals on women. Meanwhile, it is also the achievement of the emancipation campaign of women during the contemporary China. The change lies in the pursuit of freedom and civilization of marriage. While defying the feudal marriage and advocating the new one, the intellectuals then practiced the new marriage by themselves. Therefore, the change of ideas of love and marriage during the late Qing Dynasty symbolizes the social progress, thus being of a positive social significance.
