Abstract
Objective To observe the histopathological changes of ocular anterior segment after corneal trauma. Methods 117 specimens of enucleated eyeball were observed by light microscopy, among which 18 cases of corneal fissure after ocular contusion,99 cases of corneal perforation. Results The specimens whose corneal fissure is well closed have acute, subacute or chronic inflammatory changes, iris synechia and fibrous membrane come into being.Inflammatory cell infiltration atrophy and scar were seen in focal tissue. In dvanced cases the lose of vision because of secondary glaucoma, retinal detachment, endophthalmitis and eyeball atrophy.Corneal fissure which had not closed well lead to corneal fistula, with corneal epithelial ingrowth, hernia of iris and vitreous, and large area of tissue defect in the center area of the cornea as its common etiology.Because the presence of corneal fistula, there was a high incidence of endophthalmitis. The tissues of anterior have sever inflammatory response, with fibrous infiltration in the anterior chamber. In short time, the eyeballs were destroyed because of intraocular toxin. Conclusion Ocular anterior tissues present different pathological changes varying with position, form, size and close conditions of the corneal laceration after trauma.
