Abstract
Objective To summarize the experience of surgical treatment for pectus excavatum. Methods From June 1993 to Dec.2003 17 patients (12 males and 5 females) aged 1.5~18 years(6.5 ±4.2 years) with pectus excavatum received surgical treatment. sternum-elevating procedure (Rsvitch's method) was performed on 5 cases. Sternal subvolution technique on 12 cases, among them, 3 cases receiving free sternal subvolution technical, 9 cases receiving predunculated sternal turnover technique. Results No operative death and severe complication happened. Seventeen patients were all followed up as long as 5 years. The long term result of surgery was satisfactory. Conclusion Proper selection, careful management of operation are important to improve surgical outcome. Internal mammary vascular pedicles-preserved sternal subvolution looks better than other procedures.
