Diagnosis of Malassezia Folliculitis on the Scalp—A Case Report

Abstract

Objective:To investigate on the diagnostic criteria of malassezia folliculitis on the scalp. Methods:A 40-year-old male patient with malassezia folliculitis on the scalp was diagnosed in the department of dermatology in Jan.2007 by clinical manifestation and laboratory examination.The predisposing factors and diagnostic criteria were analyzed.Results: Diameter in 2-4 mm follicular papules with spores more than 10/HP and positive culture of malassezia can be confirmed in diagnosis of malassezia folliculitis.Long-term use of antibiotics,hidrosis,seborrhea and scratching might be the predisposing factors.Conclusion:Consideration of those predisposing factors,a case with red papular eruption on scalp relapsing repeatedly,a scalp follicular content direct microscopy and malassezia culture might be necessary in diagnosis.
