Abstract

The phenomenon of mothers killing their own children in many novels has deep social reasons.By killing their own children,Medea aims to take revenge on her husband and to resist the unreasonable patriarchy;Alan is to lessen her husband's burden as well as to struggle against natural disaster;Seth intends to prevent her children from returning the brutal slavery and to resist the oppression of slavery.They not only reveal the oppression of slavery and patriarchy,but also show their great courage when wrestling with patriarchy,nature and slavery.
