Commentary on the Editing and Writing of the General History of Christianity in China

Chinese scholars have thought highly of the value of editing and writing the general history of Christianity in China in recent years. A lot of writings concerning general history have been published up to now, yet there are some shortcomings as reflected in these works as follows: Firstly, most of these writings are written by Christians and have a pronounced apologetic mood, and there is a shortage of authoritative writings by non-Christians; Secondly, these writings focus on the missionary history of foreign churches in China, and are lacking in the studies of the local Chinese churches; Thirdly, these writings are limited in scope and incomplete in structure. Accordingly we should make efforts to settle the above-mentioned problems when editing and writing the General History of Christianity in China anew in the coming years.
