Abstract
A survey of trcmatodes and nematodes of aquatic birds in Ulasu Hai, Inner Mongolia was conducted during June-August, 1960. Examination of 123 birds belonging to 30 species revealed presence of 12 species of trematodes and 15 species of nematodes. Among these species, 2 of the nematodes are new to science and 6 of nematodes and 9 of nematodes are recorded for the first time from China. Of the 30 species of birds examined, 15 are found to be new hosts of 6 species of the trematodes and 11 species of the nematodes, and 6 found to be new hosts of 6 trematodes and 2 nematodes in China.Contracoecum (C.) chinensis, gp. nov.The mouth surrounded by three principal lips, which are about as long as high. Three finger-like intcrlabia having very blunt ends and possessing a large papilla at the ends. Top of each lip moderately binotched, thus giving an appearance of three teeth its sub-terminal region bearing a blunt projection, which is clearly seen from the top. The two latero-ventral lips each bearing a double papilla and 3 single papillae. Just behind the lips a folded cuticular collar standing out clearly. Length of oesophagcal appendix 0.547-0.966mm in the male and 0.498-1.328mm in the female; that of intestinal caecum 1.411-1.992mm in the male and 1.328-3.154mm in the female.Male: Body 10.79-18.26 mm in length, 0.448-0.913 mm in width; oesophagus 1.992-2.650 in length and 0.132-0.249 mm in width. Gubernaculum and caudal alae absent. A pair of spicules, brown-colored, equal and similar in shape, 4.648-6.740 mm in length and 0.013-0.017 mm in width in the proximal end, each provided with a membranous wing. Twenty-one pairs of preanal single papillae arranged in two linear rows extending far forwards on lateral sides of the cloaca. Five pairs of post-anal papillae distributed as follows; I pair double papillae at the posterio-lateral region of the cloaca, 2 pairs of single papillae sub-median and another 2 pairs of single papillae sub-lateral in position.Female: Body 18.26-37.98 mm in length and 0.481-1.660 mm in width; oesophagus 1.992-4.814mm in length and 0.149-0.398 mm in width. Vulva situated at a distance of 6.308-11.620mm from the anterior end. Tail 0.249-0.529 mm in length. Egg in uterus oval, 0.055mm in length and 0.034mm in diameter.Hosts: Phalacrocorax carbo slnensis Blumenbach, 1798; Ardea purpurea manilensis Meyen, 1834; Haliaeetus leucoryphus Pallas, 1771.Location: Stomach and large intestine.Locality: Ulasu Hai, Inner Mongolia, China. Holotype , allotype , paratypes: 4 , 4.Type specimens deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Peking, China.Epomidiostomum cygni, sp. nov.Head provided with umbrella-like cuticular expansion. Mouth surrounded by six elliptical head-papillae, fout submedian and two lateral in position. Cuticle transversely striated without wrinkled cuticular neck-region.Male: Body 7.07-8.80 mm in length, 0.215-0.254 mm in width. Head 0.0419mm in diameter; oesophagus 0.913-1.162 mm in length, 0.089-0.132 mm in width; nerve ring situated at a distance of 0.202-0.232 mm from the anterior end.Bursa trilobed, the dorsal lobe extremely small. Dorsal ray stout and short, terminating at some distance from the edge of the bursa. Length of spicule 0.149-0.185 mm and greatest width 0.016-0.023 mm; each divided into two branches at a distance of 0.040-0.056mm from the proximal end; the inner one quite slender, 0.078-0.112mm in length; the outer one blade-like and curved medially at the distal end, 0.109-0.129 mm in length. Each spicule enveloped by a transparent membrane.Female: Body 12.06-14.66 mm in length, 0.297-0.330 mm in width; oesophagus 1.145-1.560 mm in length, 0.102-0.127mm in width; nerve ring situated at a distance of 0.214-0.274 mm from the anterior end. Vulva slit-shaped, 2.43-3.46 mm from the end. Total length of the ovijector and sphincter 0.415-0.614 mm. Body tapers abruptly behind the anus and bends ventrally. Ova in uterus 0.089-0.122 mm in length and 0.053-0.056 mm in diameter.Host: Cygnus olor Gmelin, 1788.Location: Gizzard.Locality: Ulasu Hai, Inner Mongolia, China.Holotype ,
