Evaluation of laser in situ keratomileusis for myopia at five years after surgery

Objective To evaluate the effect and safety of laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) in treating myopia at 5 years after surgery. Methods LASIK was performed on 89 eyes of 49 patients who were followed up for five years. The patients were divided into four groups according to their degree of preoperative myopia according to diopter(≤-6.00D、-6.25～- 10.00D、-10.25～-15.00D、≥-15 25D).Results Five years after surgery,the uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA),the regressive degree compared with 6 months after surgery,the best co rrected visual acuity (BCVA) were reported.The percentage of UCVA ≥1 0 in each group was 100%,83%,49% and 4% respectively.Compared with 6 months after surgery ,the percentage of regressive degree ≥1.0D in each group was 0%,17%,18% and 28% .In each group,the percentage of BCVA ≥1.0 was 100%,100%,85% and 56% respective ly.Compared with preoperative BCVA, the percentage of BCVA remaining or gained one line was 86%, 79%, 70% and 20%, BCVA gained two lines or more in each group was 14%, 13%, 15% and 48%. Conclusion LASIK is an effective and safe method for reducing m yopia.
